Wildlife Safari

The lush Mt Kenya forests are a highland refuge for wildlife.

Large herds of Buffalo and Elephant can be found in the forest. Rhino and Lion are sometimes seen, and the area is also known for sightings of Black Panthers (melanisitic leopards).

There is plenty of smaller game, including reedbuck, warthog, hyrax and genet cats. The forest canopies are home to Colobus, Vervet and Sykes monkeys.

Walking in the forest with a local guide is an exciting way to encounter the local wildlife. Guides can be booked at local hotels and lodges.

A more sedate alternative is Mountain Lodge, set high in the forests and built over a well lit waterhole. The lodge is visited by a procession of oblivious game throughout the day and night. This allows guests to watch the wildlife from the comfort and warmth of their rooms. This privileged position gives guests rare opportunity to observe natural behaviour and interaction as various animals emerge from the forest.
