Maralal and Beyond|Marsabit and Beyond

Around Marsabit, many small markets and shops can be found selling local handicrafts.

This region is the best place to buy traditional handicrafts from the Borana, and other local tribes.

When buying these goods, bargaining is the expected norm.

The Borana, like the Oromopeople in the East, produce attractive functional items, including include water pots, often made from Ostrich egg shells or gourds, used during their nomadic treks across arid areas, ornate wooden stools, wooden 'books' inscribed with Koranic verses, bowls, ladles, and neck pillows.

Northern Kenya is also a good place to find handicrafts from further North. Somali Bracelets and Daggers are widely available in Marsabit, as are items of silver Ethiopian and Yemeni Jewelry.
